Tub Time?

So when we made the decision to tile the tub surround instead of just using a "regular" surround, I knew that we were going to have to do LOTS of steps.  Let's be honest....who REALLY likes to do lots of steps??  No matter how bad we want to cheap out or take the quick route, we're not going to do it.  That's just not how we roll!  So today I began the chore of waterproofing the HardiBacker with RedGard.  It's this crazy stuff you roll or brush on and when it dries it makes like a rubber coating.  So weird!  :)  But I can see how it would work.

Here's how it looks with the "primer" coat - the RedGard thinned down with water.
That's all I got done for today on that...have to let it dry a bit...so tomorrow I will do the remaining coats.  So next we worked on lighting.  I got these schoolhouse lights that I just love from Lowes, only problem is that for some reason they don't hold tight to the ceiling...so they BARELY cover the light box!  How can we fix this??  Hmmmm....

Isn't it cute?  These lights are above the windows in the kitchen.

Here's how it looks "modified"
We just made something like a plate to cover more at the base.

There it is...our "fix".  I just took a plain light box cover...plastic...like $2.15, Kade cut holes in them while I was working on the RedGard for the tub.... and then I took the very same spray paint that I used for the closet lights and gave them a quick coat.  The hole in the center didn't even have to be straight because the screw holes are what keeps it centered.  (although anyone that REALLY knows me knows that that being off center still drives me crazy, lol)

There it is again...all fixed....you can't even tell we did anything!
Now...I can't wait to get the Kitchen cabinets in and see how cute these lights REALLY look :)

I'm going to finish up the RedGard tomorrow while Kade's at work, then we'll see what other trouble I can get in to, lol

My Favorite Wall

Finally...we got to work on the Dining Room/Stairway wall! (I was getting so sick of seeing those studs with nothing on them, lol)  This is one of my favorite things so far.  Oh..and the plan is to paint this one too  :)

So...what do you think?  I think I LOVE it!

Do you see anything in this picture?  I SEE SPRINKLES :)
This is the FIRST time we've seen anything that even resembles rain in the last few months!  It's been soooo HOT and soooo DRY this summer.  Even I am praying for rain..and I am NOT a fan of rain!

Not a lot of waste so far...I'm doing pretty good!

My work station :)

DONE!
Well...at least with the part that's above floor level.
Kade still has to pull some wiring in the basement before we can finish down the stairs.

Moving Right Along

Ok...just so you know...I AM working on this project....it just so happens that there's nobody there to take a picture of ME working :)  Not sure what Dad would do if I handed him my phone and said "here, take a picture" lol.  I'm doing all of the cutting and some of the measuring (when Dad's not paying attention, lol)  We made some pretty good progress again...got one wall done yesterday after I worked on signs...then got the other two done today.  Just need to cut pieces to finish the bottom (which will all be behind the trim)

I think Dad really likes to use the nail gun  :)

Did I mention it was HOT again, lol.  106 Outside...and it's amazing how hot 82 feels with no air circulation!

There it is...all finished up

Well...not entirely finished...I still have to prime it and paint it

I know that some people HATE that idea...but trust me...it's going to look good!

Oh...still have to get our french doors for here!

Work...

So my "real" job has struck again, lol.  I spent several VERY hot hours this morning putting together signs for Market Pro Realty!  I must admit though...they do look nice  :)

I only had 50 of these to do and 10 Open House Signs, lol.
Did I mention that is was SO hot outside??

We worked on the tongue & groove this afternoon....oh...we can finally turn the A/C on too!  YEAH!!  Makes working in a sunroom MUCH easier...although we did have the door pretty much blocked off from the rest of the house so that we could at least TRY and keep the dust contained out there in our work area.  Hopefully we can finish up this space tomorrow!

Sunroom Time!

Oh, I've so been waiting for this part!  I HATED the wood paneling in the sunroom :)  Dad removed the wood paneling last night while we went to Lowes & Home Depot...only to find out that it had drywall underneath it...and it was NOT a good drywall job, lol.  Sooo...had to tear that out too.  We got it all cleaned up though and Dad and I got started on the tongue & groove.  I am soooo excited about this room!  Since we had it all opened up we decided to go ahead and replace the insulation...we used the Roxul again...man I just love that stuff...so nice!  Then we put a vapor barrier up since it is technically an exterior wall.

All ready to go....let's do this!!

1st Wall done!  (well...almost)  Still need to do the bottom row...but those are going to have to be trimmed.  I got started and then Dad just couldn't stay away...I think he really wanted to get in on a relatively quick project, well...maybe we should just call it one that you can actually see progress on :)

The Little Things

Are we done yet??  Ha!  NOT EVEN CLOSE!  At least we're not looking at stud walls with wiring & unfinished plumbing hanging out!! On Wednesday we drove over to STL and went to Lumber Liquidators to pick up the tongue & groove pine for the sunroom and the stairway walls.  Today it was a little bit cooler so I decided I'd better get the closet lights out and painted while I could still breathe, lol.  I found these lights on ebay for about $8 each after shipping...I thought they were so cute and went well with the traditional/vintage style that we have.  I got such a good deal because they are SHINY brass, lol.  I picked up some Rustoleum Metallic paint & primer in one spray paint in Oil Rubbed Bronze (that's what the rest of our fixtures are)

Minus the color I think they'll be cute!

layed them all out on some cardboard...

Wow....that IS shiny, lol...

MUCH BETTER!!  I'll have to take a pic when we get them put up!

I also laid out the pattern for the tub surround.  3x6 white subway tile w/2 stripes of brown glass....LOVE IT!

I think we've got the right height and everything...the idea of tiling is making me so nervous!

Let the Painting Begin!

Finally I made some decisions and picked up some paint.  We've only got one coat on everything...but at least we can see what it's going to look like!

Sherwin Williams Sleepy Blue for the Master Bedroom

Sherwin Williams Ancient Marble for the Front Bedroom

Dover White for the Dining Room & Hallway
(notice the recessed lights are ON...yeah!)

Sherwin Williams Universal Khaki in the Sitting Room & Kitchen

LOVE my lights...they're actually exterior lights...

Happy Birthday, Grandma!

I know this has nothing to do with our house....but today we're celebrating my Grandma's 90th Birthday.  What an amazing woman she is!!  I don't think she really has any idea what she means to all of us!

A little (BIG) cake that I made...Sara had to help and do the writing.

Grandma being serenaded by The Harmans!  She's so cute!

A little show for everyone...(and I think everyone really enjoyed it!)
a special thanks to The Harmans for being there!

Maybe we'll have to make this a Birthday Tradition for Grandma!

Cleaning & Painting

So we worked for the last two days on scraping up and vacuuming the joint compound piles off of the floor and getting it all cleaned up and taped off.  Richie & Brian came today to primer & paint and I do think we impressed them with how clean it was :)

Here's a little video of the main room before they got in here to paint.

Take note on how CLEAN the floor is!!

SOOOOOO clean, lol!

The priming action...

Poor guys....it was soooo hot!

Look how nice that looks though!

This room looks HUGE!

Oh my gosh....

This really is turning out to be a house!!!

A little "after" video of the primed space.
It's amazing what primer can do!

I guess now it's time for me to finalize my wall colors and get to painting!
Maybe Richie & Brian should come back and paint too....

More Finishing

I just can't believe that these guys can work in this heat!!  It's soooo dreadful - at least it's not as humid as it usually is here in the midwest!

95 was the temp INSIDE on Friday!!  Yuck!

So they finished up the drywall finishing on friday...

Crazy...it's turning into a house again in front of our very eyes!

I bet you want to see what that wall is going to like don't you?

I decided to get a price on having them prime everything and paint the ceilings....
that would make my job a little bit easier!

Into the Clutter Room

Clutter Room - LOVE it that there is so much light in there!

And last but not least....another new wall in the basement!  It's kind of annoying to work around the duct work...but ya gotta do whatcha gotta do!

I've been thinking about it alot....and I think I'd better call Richie back and have him come and prime & paint  :)  He can get it done sooooo much quicker than I can!
