Don't Forget Your Apron

Your window apron that is!  Just look at 'em all!  We actually put them together over a few days...and today I worked on filling holes and caulking their joints so I can get them painted.

Exciting!  This will be the finishing piece of trim for all of the windows!!

Each apron is 6 total pieces.
3 cove moulding (mitered on each end) and 3 simple baseboard (mitered on each end)

These two are for the kitchen windows....
for some reason we just weren't diggin' a full blown apron in there.

Just about ready to go up!

I think they turned out awesome!  I need to apologize to my husband for making EVERYTHING so much harder than it needs to be....but IT LOOKS AMAZING!!

So I'm sitting there working this afternoon and hear a loud falling noise...
hmmmm.....what on earth was that??
Look around, don't see anything....go outside and look at the roof...

dang!  We have GOT to get this tree taken down!

This is the second limb that it has dropped on the house!  I had to climb up there in my flip flops so I could take a pic and send it to Kade at work :) One of these times we may not be so lucky and it may do some actual damage!  Add this to the list of things to do asap!

Tedious to say the least!

Well, right now it seems like I'm in one of those places where you work non-stop and you NEVER see any results!  I've been filling holes and caulking trim.  UGH!

I tried to work "around" the clawfoot tub...ha!
I was squeezed in there sideways in some places!  Crazy!

Got all of the holes filled in the master closet!  It makes such a mess!
(I guess everything about construction makes a mess, lol!)

All we need are window aprons and the trim in here will be done!

I am absolutely LOVING how everything is coming together!

Master bedroom....lookin' good!

Sitting area (currently housing the dining room table)

Hey!!  Where's my tape measure??
Seriously...we both always go to the same tape measure (everyone has a favorite, right?)
so the other day at Lowes I decided to get another one so I'd have one and Kade would have one...
this is the end result...and it was NOT a setup!  He REALLY hogged up both tape measures!
He is such a mess!

Prep Work......stinks!

:)
Why does prep works ALWAYS take so long??  Today I taped off the INSIDES of all of the cabinets in the clutter room / laundry room.

I figured this was the best way to prepare them for spraying paint.

This protects all of the "guts" of the cabinets and only surfaces to be painted are exposed.

I'm not going to lie....I'm not excited about being in this little 8x10 room sealed up with plastic while I'm spraying paint and polyurethane.

While I was doing that Kade was working on the cased openings that go from the dining room/sitting room into the hallway.

He got a bunch of door trim cut and got both openings done.

Look at that beautiful job?  Now I need to fill those nail holes and then prime and paint.

Maybe I should wait and save the painting of the trim until the last thing I do before we move in??
Sounds like a pretty good idea right now  :)

The Progress Continues!

Jeremy came back today and finished up the crown moulding.  We ended up being a couple pieces short, so he'll have to come back and finish that when we finally get them delivered.  We've also decided to have him do the pocket doors, so he can just come back and do all of that at the same time.

Here's the dining room with its crown moulding up.  LOVE IT!

Sunroom (this room is missing an entire piece on the other side, lol.

Sitting area and doors to the sunroom.  I can't wait to get that table cleaned off and get all of those tools actually put away!  That alone will change the entire look of the main floor!

Finally, the crown moulding is up over the kitchen cabinets.  I'm going to have to paint those to color match the cabinets.  I can't wait to see how that looks  :)

Jeremy touching up the crown moulding in the master bedroom.

Look what finally started blooming!!  I can't believe that 2 weeks ago it was snowing 14" and this weekend we have flowers blooming like crazy!

I worked on the cabinet doors again all day.  I think the back sides are finally done!

My cabinet door drying rack has really come in handy...especially since I've had to prime & paint these boogers what seems like a zillion times!!

A good solid coat...finally.  I'll probably let them dry tomorrow and then flip them and start painting the fronts on Monday or Tuesday.  There are so many different jobs I could be doing right now it's not even funny!  Not good for a person with ADD!

We stopped early so we could go to the last Harmans Bluegrass show at the auction this spring.  I can't believe it's already April!  Where has the time gone??  I'll try and remember to post a few pics when I get them onto my computer!

Trim Painting

For months now all I've been thinking is HOW IN THE WORLD AM I GOING TO PAINT ALMOST 100 16' PIECES OF TRIM??  The task just seamed so daunting!  I had to get a few pieces done for the laundry room and it seriously took me like 3 hours to do 4 pieces...and to me they looked AWFUL!!!  Soooo...Jeremy to the rescue!  I was there to help...but of course, he's use to working alone...so he didn't need me at all!

He used his airless sprayer again...

check out how much paint comes out at once...awesome!

I seriously need to find something that I can practice using our sprayer on...it looks so fun, lol!

At the end of the day...all, that's right, I said ALL of the trim (base, crown and casing) is painted and ready to be cut and installed!  So awesome!  Talk about a huge weight lifted off of my shoulders!

I'm thinking now we're going to have Jeremy come back and install the crown moulding.  Maybe he can just finish the rest of the house, lol.  JUST KIDDING!

Casing Woes

Today we made up two different styles of door casing.  Both VERY similar...and both very simple.  I really love the look of an old farmhouse and I think either of these would work.

Straight cut even with the sides.

or straight cut that overhangs about 3/4" on each side.

We think we like the top (even with both sides) the most.
To be honest though....we don't really love either of them.  Ugh!

We'll take a few days to look at them both and see what we decide.
Does anyone else find it this hard to make decisions?

Another tile floor!! Yeah!

Oh my gosh...it's crazy how fast someone who lays tile all the time can actually get it done!!  The guy was here by 8 and DONE by 3:30!!  INSANE!!  It would have taken me 3 days!!

Tiling mess!  See those cabinets on the right...those are the mudroom cabinets.

I can't believe how fast he's going.

I just love this pattern...it's so much nicer (in my opinion) than just straight tiles.

Can't wait until tomorrow when we can get in there and really look at it.

Here's the dresser that I'm using for the main bathroom vanity.  I worked on sanding it today while the tile guy was here.

Tomorrow I'll try to get this bad boy stained.  I'm hoping I can get it as dark as the original stain!

See the nice original stain??  It just wasn't in good shape though.  The finish was beaded up on most of the piece.  Ugh!  I wonder what caused old finishes to do that....

I'm trying to figure out what trim we want to use too.  I've been through TONS of magazines and just am not really inspired by much.  I had picked the one below...but now I'm thinking maybe just plain.

This one just looks like a little too much to me.  I know it's not FANCY...let's just say I don't LOVE it!

I think I'll continue my hunt for the proper trim/casing.  Not sure why I'm so uninspired lately.
