No, seriously....I'm absolutely, positively, without a doubt, CRAZY!!!

Today I picked up the sander...

walked in to the clutter room...

and sanded the polyurethane off of the cabinet boxes!!  I just couldn't take it!

I knew I wouldn't be happy with the "yellow" finish that they ended up with!

It DEFINITELY wasn't the look I was going for!

(darn that minwax waterbased poly!)

You can already see the difference in the yellow polyurethaned finish and where I sanded it off (the big flat area)  What a cloudy, dusty MESS this was!!

I sanded for HOURS but didn't get finished.  Hopefully I'll wrap it up tomorrow so I can prime it ALL again...and then start to repaint.

Have I mentioned that I'M CRAZY????

The Day Has Come

That's right...say goodbye to the hickory stained cabinets and hello to the WHITE clutter room.  I know for some of you this is like a major sin...but my vision was always to have a crisp clean clutter room.  I finally broke out the sandpaper today and got to work.

I didn't do a heavy sanding down to the bare wood

just enough so that my primer will stick. 

Notice how the finish isn't shiny anymore.

I'm pretty sure that I pick THE MOST labor intensive projects EVER!

What do you think?

I was even a good girl and taped paper over the tile floor so that I didn't make a super mess!

When Kade got here tonight we figured out the spacing for the kitchen faucet.

Hole cutting bits are fabulous things!

Now we just need to get the trim done around the windows so that we can get the backsplash up and then actually INSTALL the faucet.

Next on the agenda....prime the clutter room cabinets.  Lets get this show on the road!

No joke!!

OH MY GOSH!!!  This has been such a frustrating day!!!  I decided since the weather was decent that I should probably go ahead and sand the wooden countertops...after all...these boards are just regular 2x10's like you'd use as a floor joist!

Here's an idea of what I had to deal with....

and this is NOT a joke!!  I seriously broke that many sheets of sandpaper with my belt sander!!  I used the Black & Decker Dragster.  I love that thing...but COME ON...what's with all the broken paper???

I honestly can't believe how flat we got these.

So my arms are about dead...can't believe I could sand so much!  I FINALLY ran to the local hardware store and bought some new paper.  I guess the paper I had was just old...so the tape at the joint kept tearing or just falling off, lol.  Dad helped for awhile with his belt sander...so we tried to crank out the work!  We used 80 and then 150 grit....I'll hit it with 220 when I sand by hand before staning.

I can't believe we got them all done today!
