Trimin' it Out

Worked on some more trim work tonight!  I finished painting those window aprons today so that we could go to town tonight!!  Doesn't it look great?  I'm so glad we went to the extra work (ha, I can say that now, lol)

Sunroom trim is all up

Dining Room trim is all up.

What a mess we have on that table!!  :)

Kitchen window trim is up.  I need to take a closeup of that!

We even got the chair rail installed in the half bath.

Remember that we've got pocket doors in BOTH walls of that little room.

That meant NO NAILS to hold the chair rail up on the front half of each of those walls.

Solution:  Silicone (Kade LOVES silicone now!)

So we used silicone and I used an old shower curtain rod to put pressure on both sides!

Hopefully it will work and not slide down during the night, lol!

Another Finishing Touch

Sanded caulk!  Yep....that's right...sanded caulk.  Color matched to your grout color...and it is  AWESOME!!  :)  I am quite fond on caulk anyway...but caulk to match your grout...even better!

Behind the stove.....DONE!

Kitchen backsplash....DONE!

Laundry sink backsplash.....DONE!

Pantry backsplash.....DONE!

That's right...I just said done 4 times!!

WOO-HOO!

Here's a little glimpse into how detail oriented I am.

Looks pretty good doesn't it?  Gotta install the sink & faucet now!

You can't even tell where the grout ends and caulk begins!  YEAH!

Now it's time to get the window & door headers finished up!

Backsplash City!

It's like non-stop backsplash around here lately!  Kitchen, clutter room and laundry!  But we're just about done with all three!  YEAH!  Today I figured out which tile/pattern that we're going to use behind the laundry sink.  Of course....it ended up being something that would just take more time :)

Home Depot had this tile for I think $10 for 1 sq. ft...you can run it horizontally or diagonally.  Of course, diagonally looked the best to us (duh, it's going to be more difficult!)  White marble with little 3/4" black marble tiles.  Well...there was something just a little off about it (as much as we loved it)

Ah....that looks better.  I found some 3/4" tumbled brown marble at Lowes for about the same price...so does that mean now I have to cut out all of those black 3/4" tiles??

That's enough of that for today!

Lets get the kitchen backsplash done!

Going up!  Didn't take too terribly long - a pretty easy install I would say.

I love it!  Can't wait to grout.

It looks so much more "finished" with a backsplash!

We still need to do behind the stove area.  I'll try and do that tomorrow. 

I can't wait to get all the tools and stuff put away.  Then it will actually start looking like a house and not a construction zone!

Exciting!

Tonight we finally got to go pick up our washer and dryer and new fridge that I bought in NOVEMBER & DECEMBER of 2012!!!  Not kidding!  Can't believe Sears let us keep them at the store for so long (Thanks, Sears!)  So Mark & Jeff came and picked Kade and I up after they got done at work and we headed to town.

I wonder if we could have used a longer trailer, lol.

Doesn't matter though...it got everything home safely!

It'll be fine though.  You can bet all three of the guys were giving me a hard time about how much room that there ISN'T around that fridge.  I'll just ignore them until it becomes a problem for ME!  Then we can look at a counter depth fridge if we absolutely must!

(personally I think we'll be fine!)

A Little of this and a Little of that!

Today we're all working on different projects!  Kade and I are doing misc. stuff that needs to get done and Jeremy is back and installing crown moulding!

Dad came over for a visit and had to see just how Jeremy does crown moulding....

I'm pretty sure he was impressed. :)

Can I just say what a blessing air tools are!!  I can't imagine doing this with a hammer and nails! (but don't get me wrong...a hammer and nails still hold a strong place in the construction world!)

 

While I was walking around I noticed something...we are forever looking for pencils around here.  No matter how many I have...they never seem to be where we need them, and we always have to go on a hunt to find one.  See Kade's jacket hanging there on the rack?

See what's in it's pocket??  lol!  Nobody steals pencils like Kade does :)

I'm really hoping I've broken him of carrying them point down in the back pocket on his jeans though!

Kade and I finally switched out the two kitchen cabinets that had some issues in the finish (see below)

and we got the last little piece of countertop installed to the right of the stove.

Regardless....it's done...and they look great now!

Jeremy flew through the crown moulding today...he got at least half of it done.  Here's the master.

Front bedroom...we've gotta get the casing on those windows FAST, lol!

Our First Appliance!

That's right ladies and gentleman....our first appliance has been installed!  Kade installed our new Whirlpool dishwasher today while I was working on cabinet doors!  So exciting!  We bought the Whirlpool Gold 24" Built In Energy Star Dishwasher (Model WDT710PAYM) It's got GREAT reviews on Lowes website...and I can't wait to use it!!

Kade sure does play the role of a lot of different people...builder, plumber, electrician, lol, poor guy.

Overworked and under paid is an under statement!!

Doesn't it look awesome?  Our first stainless appliance.

 We opted not to install the handle just yet...just in case someone runs into it with something...that would make me cry!

I'm going to continue working on the cabinet doors....still not getting results that I'm happy with.  I'm going to have to decide if I'm going to sand them down smooth and "start fresh" YUCK!

Trying Again!

Check out that fabulous under cabinet lighting!!  AWESOME!!  Unfortunately I threw away the first transformer that we bought (oops, thought it was an old power cable that was dead!) and then we realized that we bought the wrong color of lighting strips!

So FINALLY, we got the new transformer, got the correct color of lights, and they are in action!

It's amazing to me how bright they are.

Here's a close up...LED strips.  It'll be interesting to see how well they stay attached to the undersides of the cabinets.  It looks like one may be bubbling off already.

Here's another try on the door casing....

More of a craftsman/farmhouse type casing.  This one would take quite a bit longer to build.

We stuck it up on the closet door just to get a looksie...and

we both immediately said...YES....THAT IS IT!!

and then DANG IT!!  These are going to take forever to build!

No different than anything else that we're doing though....so why should we be surprised!

Add these to the "to-do" list.  We may be done with this house in 2020!

It's Finally In!

Since Scott is home for Thanksgiving we had him help move the kitchen countertop in today...that bad boy is HEAVY!  Kade and I have moved it a few times, but I just couldn't do it today.

There it is in all of its glory!

It fit PERFECTLY on top of the sink.  Kade is amazing :)

Cabinets will be stacked on top of this end (the left end)

Another cabinet will be stacked on the countertop in this corner.

I'm SO glad that we decided to do the wooden countertops again...there's just something about them.  Pretty sure I'll do them in EVERY house we ever live in!!

We also got the upper cabinets installed in the mudroom.

I love the way that turned out.

Now we just need to figure out what's going to go on the back wall...

put it there...and then put the coat hooks!!

I got all of the hardware on the base cabinets.

It took me so long to decide which ones we were going to use.  I've probably got 10 knobs and 3 or 4 pulls that I tried, lol.  Obsess much??

I love these....simple cup pulls and plain knobs in oil rubbed bronze.

Just the look I was going for!
