It's Finally In!

Since Scott is home for Thanksgiving we had him help move the kitchen countertop in today...that bad boy is HEAVY!  Kade and I have moved it a few times, but I just couldn't do it today.

There it is in all of its glory!

It fit PERFECTLY on top of the sink.  Kade is amazing :)

Cabinets will be stacked on top of this end (the left end)

Another cabinet will be stacked on the countertop in this corner.

I'm SO glad that we decided to do the wooden countertops again...there's just something about them.  Pretty sure I'll do them in EVERY house we ever live in!!

We also got the upper cabinets installed in the mudroom.
I love the way that turned out.
Now we just need to figure out what's going to go on the back wall...
put it there...and then put the coat hooks!!

I got all of the hardware on the base cabinets.

It took me so long to decide which ones we were going to use.  I've probably got 10 knobs and 3 or 4 pulls that I tried, lol.  Obsess much??

I love these....simple cup pulls and plain knobs in oil rubbed bronze.
Just the look I was going for!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Kade worked on the house until about 2, then we took the rest of the day off.

We had to give tours this afternoon! :)
All of my family was here - first time in a long time.

How many people could we pile in the truck?
There were 3+ a dog in the cab too!
The weather was absolutely amazing today too...couldn't have asked for much better.

We Have a Winner!

The winning lights for above the kitchen island are the utility style pendants!  We both really like them (and that hardly ever happens.)  They're just high enough that they're not right in Kade's face :)

You can see the hand scraping on the floor.  So cool.

This is the longest run of flooring that we'll have to do...and thank goodness that it's done!  It runs from one side of the house ALL the way to the other - Approx. 47'

I LOVE the way the island looks with the hardwood floor.
And did I mention that I LOVE the floor??  :)

More Doors & Countertops!

Another new door is in!  Although I don't love installing them, I LOVE what they can do in terms of positive change when they are fully installed!  Remember our old side garage door?

So gross!

and now the new door!  It even makes our skin colored aluminum siding look not SO bad, lol.
Perfect!!  I don't think we're going to put a storm door there...I don't really see much need at this time.

I moved the wooden countertops in to the mudroom today too

Now we can install the upper cabinets!  YEAH!

I'm actually really happy with how they turned out.  Although I had that trouble with the dust.  My solution was to SPRAY on a fourth coat of spar urethane.  It's not as smooth as I'd like it to be, but at least it's not full of dust flecks!  So I guess what it comes down to is that I must have had dust in my brush...even though I bought it new for this project...and even though I cleaned it really well after each use.

And the finished pieces in the clutter room.  Now to just cut that hole for the WASH TUB sink :)
(I'm going to do it...so Kade better just go ahead and agree already!)

Pantry side...nothing going there...just the countertop, so it is ready.
Oh...and I still need to paint the cabinets white in here.
I know what some of you are saying...YOU'RE GOING TO PAINT THOSE??
(can you tell I've heard that before?) and the answer is YES!!!  I am most definitely going to paint those!!  Sorry folks!  I wanted white cabinets in the clutter room.

I went to the garage to check on the kitchen counter..and you guessed it...the finish is messed up on that one too!  Ugh!  This time...not dust...no...BUGS!!  HOW RUDE!!
Why do bugs LOVE to land on things that are freshly painted or polyurethaned??

Over all though I think it looks so nice.
My fingers are still crossed that it fits perfectly over the sink!!!

The New Front Door

Oh my gosh, I am in love again :) Today we got the new front door installed that Kade's cousin Brent put together for us.  Actually, my brother, Scott was home, and he came and helped Kade get that in...and install the door knob.  Now I can't wait to change that siding and do something about the brick!!  That door is just way too good for the rest of the exterior!!

This is a ThermaTru fiberglass door.

Look what we found when we took the old door out!
Somehow that little snakey got in between the brick and the framed wall!
We left it there, lol.  Figured we would take it out when/if we do something with the brick.

View from inside.... <3

Tomorrow we're going to work on the side garage door.
It's amazing what just a new door can do for the looks of the place!

Light Time!

Island lighting that is!  I had my heart completely set on these large bell pendants that I had gotten from Overstock.com, but over the last few months I found a couple other ones that I thought might work as well.  Kade is NOT a fan of the large bell pendant...he thinks that it hangs down too low. (In my defense, I am shorter than he is, so it doesn't hang in my line of sight, lol)  Poor Kade had to hang all these lights and stretch himself over the island.  I bet his arms are dead now!

First options:  Large Bell Pendant and Utility Pendant Light

Then we moved to a pendant that let a little more light out, but didn't hang so low...
and still the utility pendant light

Then we have my good 'ol cheapo's that I bought so we could just make our own pendants, lol.
Yes, I am serious, that was actually my plan from the get-go.  Who doesn't want to make their own pendant lights??

For now I think we both actually like the utility style pendant lights.  I'd like them to put off a bit more light though...so maybe we can get a glass shade part instead of the metal??

And finally...our countertop is back..and it finally acceptable.

Here's a picture of the Tigris Sand.  It's actually a bit less gray than this...not so dark.
I love it!  Can't wait to bake everything under the sun!!!

Take it back!

Well, the solution to the Silestone countertop dilema....take it back to the shop and cut off about 1/4" so that the chip is actually gone.

Why do I feel like a jerk for having them do that??  I realize that I paid for it, but still I feel so bad.

There it goes.  Rolling down the road, AWAY from our house :(
They said it would only take a day or two.

Here's the middle bedroom paint.  This is my new color (see it up at the ceiling and down the corner)
I'm not sure if you can tell how pink the old color was.

Here's another angle.  Gross, just gross, lol.
I think the new color will be so much better.
(and, it matches my quilt nicely)

Can you imagine that we had a bit of a mishap with the new thermostat.
For some reason it shorted out, ugh!
Don't you love how we get to operate the furnace until the replacement thermostat gets here?
Gotta love that!

Kade also got the light up in the half bath today.  It's not REALLY that dark in there,
but I wanted it to focus on the light fixture and not the room color.
I LOVE the light...but the bulbs have to be changed...they take longer to warm up than it will take you to get in there and do your business, lol.

Here's the ceiling light/vent fan for the 1/2 bath.
I love, love, LOVE it!  It's SO quiet too.
