Cleaning time...

Wow..it's amazing the kind of mess we can make while working on a house (o.k., not really, but it's amazing how much I think I need to keep it clean!)  We're tearing out walls....what do I expect?

So today, first thing, we did some cleaning and organizing of our work space.  We moved the rest of the old cabinets out of the kitchen and in to the garage (guess I should probably make a decision on which cabinets that I want to order, huh?)  Ugh!  Making a decision!!  Why can't I do it?  It just seems so permanent!  Kade had to cap off the water lines under the sink and dishwasher.  He got it done...but here's a great story that happened in the mean time...

So...Kade tried and tried to get the valves soldered on to the hot and cold water lines under the sink.  He finally got it to seal good on the hot water line, but still couldn't get it on the cold water line.  Dad comes over to give us some help...he takes a look at what Kade has done...decides he can the cold water valve on, so he messes with it for awhile.  Ok, Kade, he yells...turn the water on.  So Kade goes to the basement and turnes the water on.  I had just gone out to throw something in the dumpster, throw the door open to come back into the kitchen at just the perfect moment.  There's Dad over the water lines...that's good, he yells, and then all of the sudden it was like Old Faithful in the kitchen.  The water shoots ceiling high out of the hot water line...nailing Dad in the face.  He yells back to Kade, whoa, whoa, and Kade turns the water back off.  I'm so glad I came back when I did...  So now Kade comes back upstairs...we tell him all about it...we're all laughing...it was too funny.  So then Dad realizes that he just had the valve open on the hot water line...so Kade goes back to the basement and turns the water on again....and everything seems fine.  So here we are cleaning up the water mess from Dads escapade, and Kade and I both hear a little whistling noise...almost like a pipe was going to blow.  Kade gets over there by the water lines again and puts his head down close....I think it's coming from the water lines he says....he grabs a valve and gives it a little turn.....OLD FAITHFUL IS BACK!!!  Blasts Kade in the face...blows the hat up off of his head, and then ricochets off of Kade and gets Dad again.  Oh my gosh....I was rolling on the floor.  I had tears running down my face!  Why don't we have cameras installed in this house??  That would have been some award winning footage!!

So the water lines are finally actually capped off!  Whew!  That was quite the chore!  We stopped and went to have dinner at Mom & Dad's with some friends...and then back to work we went again.  We carried some of the de-nailed wood that was still in the dining room down to the basement, then decided we'd get that plaster/drywall off of the wall that currently separates the kitchen and dining room!

Check out my master moves!  It's like the crane from Karate Kid!

Kade fought with the dang soffit for what seemed like forever!  It was like the only nail bigger that they could have used to hold it together was a railroad spike!

Now we can finally kind of see how big the space will be once we totally get the wall down.

Here's the cove that we're losing because of our "opening up" process.
The actual cove I like...but the fish scale pattern in the middle is barf-o-rama!

So here's what we accomplished for today!  Plaster down on 3 walls....

Then Kade finally broke 1/3 of the soffit free.  Whew!
He seriously could have hung on it all day and it never would have budged!!
